The band room closes out the second film: a five or six piece group locking into a final hit on drums, two guitars, bass, keys and a vocalist, in the annex's brick walled rehearsal space with a heavy rug underfoot to control the reverb. Bands are formed from students already taking individual lessons, matched by level and instrument rather than by friendship group, and rehearse weekly on the room's shared backline, working toward a short set for the twice yearly recital.

Step by step, in this order

Weekly 60 minute rehearsal across the term. You always know which part you're on.

  1. 01 Students placed into a band by instrument, level and availability
  2. 02 First rehearsal spent on song selection and roles
  3. 03 Weekly rehearsal through the term, coached for the first term
  4. 04 Set finalised in the weeks before the recital
  5. 05 Optional end of term recording in the production suite

Does my child need to already know the other band members?

No, most bands are matched by level and instrument rather than friendship. Plenty of good bands here started as five strangers in a room.

What if the band does not gel?

It happens occasionally. We will move a student to a different group rather than force a rehearsal nobody enjoys.

Is a coach in the room every week?

For the first term, yes. After that most bands rehearse independently with a coach checking in fortnightly, unless the group would rather keep weekly support.
