Kit based drum lessons in the annex's soundproofed drum room, sticking technique first, songs second.
The drum room sits in the annex, where the brick walls and the roller door can take the noise. The close up in the first film, sticks landing on the snare and the cymbal responding correctly, is exactly what a first term looks like: rudiments and a four beat pattern before anything resembling a song. Students play the room's own kit until their coordination and reach are ready for a full drop, at which point most families start looking at a kit for home practice and we will tell you plainly what to look for.

Per lesson, billed for the term (10 lessons). No kit needed to start, the drum room's own kit is used until a student is ready for their own.

02How it runs
Step by step, in this order
30, 45 or 60 minutes, weekly across a 10 week term. You always know which part you're on.

- 03 Rudiments and sticking technique built on a pad and the kit
- 04 Four beat patterns introduced once sticking is even
- 05 Song based playing once timing is steady against a click
Will the neighbours hear a drum lesson from the street?
No. The drum room is in the brick annex, which was a joinery workshop before we took it over, and it holds sound well. It is the loudest room on the property and still passes as background noise from the footpath.
How young can a student start drums?
From about seven, once a student can sit still on a stool for half an hour and hold a stick correctly. Younger than that and the coordination usually is not there yet.
Do we need to buy a kit straight away?
No. Most students use the room's kit and a practice pad at home for the first year. We will tell you when it is worth buying one, and what to look for, rather than sooner.
