Chilwell Music Rooms teaches piano, guitar, drums, voice and strings across two buildings in Geelong West, a 1920s hall for individual lessons and the ensemble, and a converted joinery workshop behind it for the band room, the vocal booth and the production suite.

Not every student wants the same thing
Adult beginners
Piano and guitar are both common Tuesday afternoon bookings for adults starting from scratch. The same first term on posture and hand shape as everyone else, just at a pace that suits an adult schedule.

The string ensemble and the contemporary bands are both built from students already taking individual lessons, matched by level rather than friendship group, rehearsing weekly toward the recital.

Trial, weekly lesson, practice plan, concert
The same shape every term, from a first phone call to the recital.
Trial lesson
One thirty five dollar trial, matched to instrument and rough level, held as a real lesson rather than a demonstration. Credited toward your first term if you enrol within two weeks.
Weekly lesson
The same slot, the same teacher, every week for the ten lesson term. A written note home after lesson one covers posture, technique and what to practise.
Practice plan
A folder of the term’s set pieces and scales, and a progress note at the mid term mark, so a family always knows what the coming week is actually for.
Term concert
The term ends with a practice plan for the holidays and, twice a year, a place on the recital program at the Verandah Theatre for every student who wants one.

From the school's own story, 2011 to now
Give every student, from a first piano lesson to an AMEB exam candidate, a room, a teacher and a term that actually fits them.
- Two purpose built buildings: a quiet hall for individual lessons and strings, an industrial annex for drums, voice, production and bands
- A named primary teacher for the whole term, with a written note home after the first lesson
- AMEB syllabus teaching on piano, strings, guitar and voice, with entries coordinated in house
- A working production suite where students mix their own recordings, not just a room with a guitar in it

Most of Chilwell's students come from Geelong West and the inner Geelong suburbs, from Newtown to North Geelong and out to Highton, a short drive to 24 Rosewood Court.
