Acoustic and electric guitar lessons with Marcus and the guitar faculty, from a first chord to a working setlist.

The guitar room in the first film is Marcus with a second guitar in his hands, showing a student where a chord shape actually sits rather than describing it. Acoustic students learn on the room's own guitars until their hands are sized for their own instrument. Electric students bring a guitar and plug into one of the annex's small practice amps, which is where most of the second film's electric guitar footage was shot. Both streams cover technique, reading chord charts and, once a student is ready, playing along with a backing track rather than only against a metronome.

Acoustic or electric, how do we choose?

Most students under ten start on a smaller acoustic because it is easier to hold. From about twelve, whichever the student actually wants to play tends to stick better than whichever is easier to teach first.

Do you hire guitars?

Yes, both a 3/4 size acoustic and a full size, by the term. Electric guitars are bring your own, we supply the amp.

Can guitar students join a band?

Once technique and timing are solid, usually after a year or so, Reuben and Marcus place students into a band room group for the contemporary ensemble program.
