The piano room is the first shot of the first film: a single grand piano, timber acoustic panelling and a stool set to the student's height before they sit down. Anna teaches most of the piano load herself and takes every new student through the same first term regardless of age, posture and hand shape before repertoire, because a habit fixed in week two is a lot cheaper than one unpicked in year three. Lessons run thirty, forty five or sixty minutes, booked in the same weekly slot for the term so the room and the teacher are never a surprise.

  • A written note home after the first lesson on posture, hand shape and what to practise
  • AMEB syllabus teaching available from grade one onward

Per lesson, billed for the term (10 lessons). Thirty minutes suits most beginners, forty five and sixty minute lessons cost more per week and suit AMEB candidates and older students.

  2. 02 Weekly slot confirmed for the term
  3. 03 First lesson covers posture and hand position before repertoire
  4. 04 Progress note home after lesson one and again at the mid term mark
  5. 05 Term concludes with a practice plan for the holidays

Does my child need a piano at home?

A keyboard with weighted or semi weighted keys is enough for the first year or two. We hire keyboards by the term if you would rather try lessons before buying anything.

Can an adult start piano from scratch?

Yes, and it is a fairly common Tuesday afternoon booking. Adults get the same first term on posture and hand shape as everyone else, just at a pace that suits an adult schedule.

How often is the piano tuned?

Twice a year, in January before term one and again mid year. If a key sticks in between, tell Anna and we will get it looked at.
