Performance nights and recitals

Two recital nights a year at the Verandah Theatre across town, open to every enrolled student who wants a turn on stage.

The final shot of the first film, a modest bow under warm stage lights, is filmed at the Verandah Theatre, a community theatre across town that we hire twice a year because nothing on our own property has real stage lighting or raked seating. June and November, every enrolled student who wants a place gets one, from a first term piano beginner playing a single line to the string ensemble's full program. Nobody has to audition for a spot and nobody is cut for time, though sets are kept short so a two hour program does not become four.

Included in your term fee. The small optional charge is a per family contribution toward hiring the Verandah Theatre, not a performance fee.

02How it runs

Step by step, in this order

Two nights a year, June and November. You always know which part you're on.

  1. 01 Sign up sheet goes out three weeks before each recital
  2. 02 Program order set by instrument and lesson length
  3. 03 Stage rehearsal in the week before the recital
  4. 04 Recital night, families welcome
  5. 05 Photos shared with families within a week

Does my child have to perform?

No, it is entirely optional. Some students play every recital, some skip most of them, and we do not treat either choice as more serious about music than the other.

How long is a typical set?

One to three minutes for most individual students, longer for the ensemble and the bands. Program order and length are set to keep the whole night under two hours.

Where is the Verandah Theatre?

Across town from the rooms, it is a proper theatre with raked seating and stage lighting, which is why we hire it rather than perform in the ensemble hall.
